  • Skin discoloration, swelling, and/or minor pain may occur after the procedure. These are only temporary and will subside.
  • To minimize swelling, apply an ice pack for the first few hours after the procedure, leaving the pack on for ten minutes and off for five minutes at a time.
  • The day after the surgery, remember to use lukewarm water to rinse the treated area after each meal. Do this for the first three days after the procedure.
  • Do not eat hard or chewy foods; eat only foods that are soft.
  • Remember to get plenty of rest and eat normally. It is especially important to eat liquids such as soup, milk, and fruit juices. If desired, take a vitamin supplement. Do not sleep on the operated area for two to three days.
  • DO NOT use your fingers to raise your lips and inspect the treated area.
  • DO NOT brush your teeth near the site of the surgery, but do brush the rest of your teeth.
  • In many cases, patients experience a temporary loss of feeling in the surgical site. Additionally, the tooth may feel loose.
  • Remember to take all medications as prescribed and instructed.
